How We Find Common Ground at Two Sigma

Two Sigma isn't just where we work—it's where we run, climb, cook up hackathon projects, and find our people. This is a look inside The Commons, our network of employee-run clubs and communities.

In the margins of the workday or after we’ve logged off, you can find Two Sigma colleagues coming together around everything from poker to pickleball to volunteering in our communities. We actually have a long list of completely employee-founded and -run initiatives and groups — a network of togetherness we call The Commons.

Take a look at all the ways our different interests and talents help us find common ground.

Support & Celebrate

Our employee resource groups (ERGs) are at the heart of how we build a workplace where people feel they belong. Each is organized around a shared identity or experience, with a mission spanning career development, community building, and outreach beyond Two Sigma.

ERGs include Bridging Ethnicities at Two Sigma (BE@TS), which fosters a culture welcoming of all ethnicities through career development, community, and external engagement; Disability Alliance, which builds awareness and community for people with disabilities; Pride, which champions belonging, community, and visibility for LGBTQIA+ employees; Women at Two Sigma (W@TS), a forum for women and sponsors that fosters connections and opportunity; and Veterans at Two Sigma (VeTS), which supports veterans through career development, community building, and partnerships that carry forward military camaraderie. Allies welcome in all!

Connect & Create

This is where curiosity takes the lead. Whether it’s picking up a new craft, discussing a good book, or spending a day building something just for the fun of it, these groups give people space to explore both new and old interests.

Hack Day is a quarterly, full-day event where employees across every team and skill level come together to build, tinker, and explore something new, from AI experiments to open-source contributions to social-impact projects.

ImpacTS, our official volunteer initiative, connects employees with local nonprofits, spanning our global offices, for hands-on volunteering—everything from food pantries and dinner services to robotics mentoring and charity craft nights.

A few more ways we connect and create: Coffee Club, which brings people together over tastings, cafe outings, and industry events; Hacker Lab, a grassroots maker space stocked with tools for soldering, 3D printing, and more; and the Fiction Book Club, which gathers to discuss a range of interesting and imaginative reads.

Move & Play

For employees who like to stay on the go, Two Sigma’s sports and fitness groups offer a way to stay active and meet people. These range from casual, drop-in activities to organized leagues with real competitive stakes, but all share the same welcoming, team spirit.

Run Club meets weekly for a casual lunchtime run around the neighborhood of our NYC office and takes part in events throughout the year, including the Armory Marathon Relay. Employees can also join Sharpe Shooters for a full-season, basketball league; Hedgehogs, the official softball team, no experience required; weekly Volleyball matches and Pickleball games; Table Tennis for everyone from casual players to seasoned competitors; and a large, encouraging Rock Climbing community for climbers at any stage to reach new heights!

Strategize & Game

It shouldn’t be surprising that a firm full of people who love a good problem also love a good game. Our gaming communities bring out the strategic side of Two Sigma employees, whether it’s just a quiet lunchtime match or an all-out event with a prize on the line.

Chess brings players of all levels together and the annual tournament has grown into a real company tradition. Alongside chess, employees play Connect 6, a strategy game that’s been part of Two Sigma for over a decade; the annual Puzzle Hunt which lets us race to solve puzzles the fastest; and seasonal Poker tournaments each spring and fall that are a must. Poker really is a long-time love at Two Sigma for its unique combination of probability and psychological skill.

When we connect over all of these common interests, showing up to work becomes even more rewarding. That’s one of the many reasons why we love to celebrate The Commons at Two Sigma which continues to evolve and grow as we do.
