Two Sigma Leaders’ Advice for Interns, Part 3

Senior Two Sigma leaders share practical advice for interns and early-career professionals.

What does it take to make the most of an internship—and set yourself up for a fulfilling career? Over the summer of 2025, we asked several of our senior leaders to share their guidance.

The result is a three-part series packed with practical advice for interns and early-career professionals anywhere. In short, be proactively curious, seek context, build relationships, embrace discomfort and growth, take a long-term view, and focus on what you can contribute.

  • Part 1
    C
arter Lyons (Co-Chief Executive Officer), Sarah Fass (Chief People Officer), and Matt Greenwood (Chief Innovation Officer).

You’ll learn why proactive curiosity and humility matter—ask the question, and follow up one-on-one when needed. Keep your career aperture wide and don’t be afraid of nonlinear, sideways moves that help you grow. And discover the importance of finding work that truly energizes you, then amplifying that passion with the skills you build.

  • Part 2
Scott Hoffman (Co-Chief Executive Officer), Jeff Wecker (Chief Technology Officer), and Tim Reynolds (Chief Operating Officer).

This installment emphasizes being open to new experiences—and to the discomfort that comes with learning. Resilience and sustained effort often beat raw talent. You’ll also see how teamwork at Two Sigma is rooted in context: you have a right to understand the “why” behind your work, and asking thoughtful questions both accelerates your learning and constructively challenges the organization.

  • Part 3
Dawn Schoppner (Chief Financial Officer) and Geoff Duncombe (Chief Investment Officer, Two Sigma Advisers).

The focus here is on building trusted relationships, making a habit of curiosity, and raising your hand for responsibility. You’ll be encouraged to think like your “20-year self,” taking smart risks, learning from mistakes, and prioritizing what you can uniquely contribute—an approach that compounds over a long career.

Each article offers actionable takeaways you can apply on day one of your internship—or any new role.
