[00:00:05] The Two Sigma Academic Partnership Program aims to support and recognize outstanding students and educators that share our passion for learning. We offer a variety of programs from undergraduates, graduates, and professors. We have undergrad scholarships, we have PhD fellowships, we have internships, faculty research awards, and collaboration opportunities for professors in the shape of consulting.
[00:00:29] I think first and most importantly, the fellowship provides necessary financial support. I don’t need to worry about finding a house to live in or applying for teaching assistant positions. I have more time to focus on my own PhD research.
[00:00:46] Our academic partnerships and PhD programs are a great way for us to connect with students and for them to learn about what we’re doing.
[00:00:55] We are interested in research happening at a variety of places. We keep in touch with academic research, going to conferences, and going to academic seminars that we organize here at Two Sigma.
[00:01:06] The PhD Symposium is a unique opportunity for PhD students to present and receive feedback not only from academics, but also from Two Sigma researchers. And over 250 have PhD degrees themselves.
[00:01:21] So how many folks have heard what reinforcement learning or RL is? Raise your hand. Okay, great!
[00:01:27] Having folks come to Two Sigma and see what we’re up to and talk to other people who have PhDs and have been a few years ahead of them is a great way for them to see possible career opportunities at a place like Two Sigma.
[00:01:40] I didn’t realize how creative the work would be. I kind of had an impression that work related to finance was very dry. But when I talked to people at Two Sigma, it seemed like they actually had a lot of freedom.
[00:01:54] I’d really encourage people to consider doing a summer internship. It’s an opportunity for you to get exposure to an area that you might be interested in.
[00:02:02] What I really liked about Two Sigma was both the company culture and the format of the internship program. You experience firsthand what a day-to-day job entails.
[00:02:14] Two Sigma has a company culture that is very similar to technology companies.
[00:02:19] Curiosity is something in abundance here.
[00:02:23] The internship program has you working on a real project. I really enjoy the fact that I get to have impact while I’m here.
