Undergraduate Scholarship

Two Sigma’s Undergraduate Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students who are expanding frontiers in a STEM field such as statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, and physics.
Partnered Scholarships

We are actively partnering with accredited universities and colleges to establish new scholarships for undergraduate students who are members of historically underrepresented groups.

Provisions of the Award

Scholarship recipients will receive a one-time award of $15,000 USD paid to the Scholarship recipient directly, which, as a condition of the scholarship, may only be used for tuition, fees required to enroll at or attend their university, and books, supplies, equipment, and course-related fees for courses at their university
A Two Sigma Research Mentor will be assigned to each Scholarship recipient
Each Scholarship recipient will be guaranteed a first-round interview for a Two Sigma 2024 summer internship

Eligibility

In order to successfully apply for a Two Sigma scholarship, applicants must be:

Applicants must be full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited university in the United States.
Students must be in their 3rd or 4th year of a 4 year undergraduate degree program when the scholarship begins (fall semester or quarter 2024).
Students should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in one of the following disciplines listed below:
- Statistics
- Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Electrical Engineering
- Physics / Astronomy
- Applied Mathematics
Two Sigma employees, contractors/consultants and their relatives are not eligible.

Application

Application materials can be submitted by a faculty or staff member from your department or directly by the student. The department chair does not need to submit the application on your behalf.
Applicants must include a current version of their resume, ensuring that a current email, phone number and mailing address are included. Please submit as a .PDF file with the title: “Applicant Last Name, Applicant First Name Resume”.
Two letters of recommendation are required for each applicant from faculty members in the department or related department who are familiar with their work.
Applicants may submit their unofficial academic transcripts (undergraduate degree only, all years). Please ensure the transcript you submit is not password protected. Please submit as a .PDF file with the title: “Applicant Last Name, Applicant First Name Transcript”.
After submitting your application, an email from Two Sigma will automatically be sent to your two provided referrals requesting they submit their letter of recommendation through a separate link and portal. Ask your referrals to check their spam and/or junk inboxes as our emails requesting their letter of recommendation may be flagged as spam. Please notify your referrals to expect this email prior to submitting your application. Your referrals can submit their letters of recommendation until 11:59pm ET on November 17, 2023.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications Open

Applications for the scholarship will become available on the Academic Partnership website on September 1. Students will be able to upload their resume, references, and academic transcripts through 11:59pm ET on November 3. Reference have until 11:59pm ET on November 17 to submit their letters of recommendation.

Applications Close

Applications will close 11:59pm ET on November 3. Reference have until 11:59pm ET on November 17 to submit their letters of recommendation. At that time all inputted information will be considered final and no further changes will be permitted.

Candidates Notified

Following careful evaluation by a panel, candidates will be notified of their selection in early January.

Recipients Announced

Recipients will be announced on the Two Sigma website and social channels in mid-February.

FAQ

The online application period begins on September 1, 2023 and remains open until 11:59pm ET on November 3, 2023. Referrals have until 11:59pm ET on November 17, 2023 to submit their letters of recommendation. Scholarship awards will be decided by March 2024. Scholarship recipients and their universities will receive an email and a letter of congratulations by March 2024. Applications are now closed.

Payment of the scholarship award is made directly to the scholarship recipient. Please note, the total award will not exceed $15,000 USD, will apply for one academic year, and is subject to the conditions specified above. If the scholarship recipient is no longer eligible to receive funding pursuant to their university’s guidelines and policies or pursuant to the terms of the Two Sigma Undergraduate Scholarship, for example if they transfer to a different university or change to a non-eligible undergraduate program, the scholarship award may cease. The scholarship award will also be subject to agreement between Two Sigma and the recipient regarding the terms of the scholarship award, and any applicable university guidelines and legal and compliance restrictions.
